Known as agentic commerce, this emerging technology has the potential to make everyday commerce simpler and more intuitive for consumers and businesses alike. But for it to succeed, customers need to know their payments are secure, their data is protected and they remain in control.
That's why ING has joined ASB Bank, Bank of America, Capital One, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and NatWest Group in publishing a set of shared principles to support the responsible development of agentic commerce.
The banks have identified five areas they believe will be essential to building trust in agentic commerce: transparency, safety, privacy and data protection, customer choice and interoperability.
"Through our work with Worldline, Mastercard and Visa, we've already seen the potential of agentic commerce to make digital commerce more seamless and intuitive,” said Hans Overeem, global head of Payments and Cash Management at ING.
“As these new experiences develop, building trust will be essential. Customers need confidence that payments are secure, their data is protected and they remain in control. That's why we are pleased to work with our peers across the industry to help establish common principles for transparency, security, privacy and customer choice, and help shape the future of agentic commerce."
The banks are now inviting merchants, technology providers and other financial institutions to help turn these principles into practical standards that support the future of digital commerce.
