César González-Bueno appointed CEO of ING in Spain & Portugal

César González-Bueno has been appointed as CEO of ING in Spain & Portugal. César starts in his new role on 1 May 2017, subject to regulatory approval.

César has been part of the ING family before. He joined in 1998 as the first CEO of ING Direct Spain, before taking on various regional roles. He left ING in 2011 to further his career as CEO of Novagalicia Banco in Spain, which he helped restructure and privatise. He then joined Gulf Bank of Kuwait as CEO in 2014.

Aris Bogdaneris, head of ING Challengers & Growth Markets, said: “César has a proven track-record in strategic transformation and has extensive experience in retail, direct and wholesale banking. His leadership and experience will help us take our business in Spain and Portugal to the next level.”

César succeeds Peter Staal, who has played a major role in transforming ING in Spain into a full-service bank since his appointment as CEO in 2012. Peter’s next role will be announced in due course.

In welcoming César back to ING, Aris also thanked Peter for developing ING into one of the leading banks in Spain, known for its high customer satisfaction and innovative products and services.
