It’s one of the largest financial technology (fintech) events in Europe so it is no surprise that ING again took centre stage at Money 20/20 last week.
Board member Marnix van Stiphout and chief analytics officer Bahadir Yilmaz were guests at the event with artificial intelligence the hot topic of the three-day event in Amsterdam.
Marnix, ING’s chief operating officer and ad interim chief technology officer, presented on the main stage to discuss AI and the future of technology while Bahadir took part in a panel discussion about digital transformation and the impact of AI.
Both Marnix and Bahadir conducted a number of press interviews following their presentations with Marnix telling Dutch newspaper De Telegraph, that banking can be improved by AI and that works for both the customer and for the bank itself.
“We use generative AI to, among other things, improve the chatbot that helps customers, simplify the loan application process and assist our own employees in managing customer files,” he said.

Bahadir was also interviewed by TV personality and influencer Gemma Godfrey and Reuters where he argued that for banks, a growing reliance on Big Tech for AI carried new risks.
